The Spirit

Frank Miller had discovered Will Eisner’s The Spirit series many years after they were published.  Later after meeting Eisner, Miller would come to know him as a mentor.  Miller notes, “Eisner’s soulful storylines and masterful cartoon art gave birth to the American Comic Book, sustaining its purpose and vitality for more than six decades”.   His work challenged and inspired Miller to pay homage to Eisner’s most loved character The Spirit in motion pictures.  As director Miller didn’t want to replicate the work of Eisner, rather he wanted to come up with something new using the original material.
